High Intensity Interval Training Is Beneficial In Breast Cancer Survivors

Exercise has always been an important part of rehabilitation, especially after cancer. A recent study suggested that, high intensity interval training, a form of exercise, is effective at increasing cardiorespiratory fitness in breast cancer survivors.

The study published in the journal BioMed Central Cancer, aimed to evaluate the outcomes of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) for breast cancer survivors. HIIT is a form of exercise that includes multiple repetitions of short bursts of high-intensity, aerobic exercises alternated with low-intensity exercises or passive rest. For the study, the participants were grouped based on whether the HIIT intervention was conducted during or after breast cancer treatment and intervention methods.

The results indicated that participants experienced an improved cardiorespiratory fitness due to HIIT intervention. On the other hand, patients who did not engage in HIIT had less than average cardiorespiratory fitness.

The results imply that breast cancer survivors must engage in supervised exercise programs including HIIT for better health and well-being.
