According to the most recent BBC news, an inventory app to check for breast cancer at home has become a reality in the United Kingdom.
This tool or device was made to encourage the practise of self-checks. The user is allowed to create a personalized map of their torso by giving details about their breast size and shape. The application comes with a handheld device that can be pressed over the user’s chest. Once a month, the soundwaves from the device record the tissue composition and alert the user if a doctor’s appointment is needed. The changes are constantly tracked by the app.
The technology is very similar to mammograms or ultrasound scans that are used to detect a lump. However, the app is not a substitute for doctor’s appointments or annual screening procedures, nor for diagnostic purposes. The app won the prestigious UK James Dyson Award, recognising the design.
𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞: These tools are still in the early stages of development and must pass regulatory device checks to ensure their utility.
